The enclosed report presents the results from the flights of the NOSL middeck experiment on STS-4 and STS-6, and documents this activity as successfully meeting its objectives. The NOSL investigation involved the use of a 16 mm motion picture camera and associated equipment stowed in a standard locker in the Orbiter middeck. The equipment was carried to the aft flight deck by the crew and operated there to obtain the desired photography through the windows. The NOSL is an example of the evaluation of an investigative technique that takes advantage of available crew time and strong crew involvement to be able to make use of relatively simple and inexpensive equipment.
