This is the first of a series of reports describing the services of the ESSA Research Flight Facility (RFF), an airborne research organization that provides worldwide services to the scientific community. The first volume gives a brief history of the RFF and describes the RFF aircraft, logistical support requirements, navigational and operational practices, and communications capabilities. Typical flight patterns and aircraft capabilities are also described as an aid to researchers in planning particular experiments or data collection programs. (Author)
