Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques (SITA) is introduced as a global aeronautical communications service provider. SITA operates the world's largest private telecommunications network, serving over 400 airlines in 190 countries. SITA provides VHF data link services in some 45 countries and a world wide voice and data Aeronautical Mobile Satellite Service (AMSS). The status and evolution of SITA AMSS is discussed, together with a review of Air Traffic Control use of SITA data link facilities.
