Teleoperated land vehicles of various types have been developed, studied and used for many years. In order to control the motion of these vehicles, the human operator must be provided with knowledge of the environment in which the vehicle is operating and with some type of feedback on vehicle motion. Experimental studies of remote driving are reviewed to approach an understanding of these control requirements. Due to the relative sparseness of data, it is also necessary to investigate the related technologies of vision, kinesthetic feedback, training, and performance measurement. Through this review, a number of significant areas requiring additional development work are identified. (ERA citation 12:039368)
