The radar cross sections of CV-38, DD-617, APA-95, CL-87, APA-100, and CA-72 have been measured for frequencies in the range from 200 MC/s to 3060 Mc/s. The results from the destroyer, two cruisers, and the carrier are compared with those obtained previously on the DD-695, CL-89, CA-71 and CV-13. The radar cross sections of the APA-00 were also measured at 200, 970, and 3000 Mc/s from shipboard radar equipment aboard a light cruiser, as was also the DD-617 at 700 Mc/s from shipboard radar equipment aboard a destroyer. The radar cross section as a function of ship aspect was determined for several ranges by having the target ship turn slowly in a circle of small diameter. Anomalous propatation conditions have been observed to increase the echo received at a range of 30000 yards by 35 db above the level received during standard conditions. An analysis of the values for the far zone radar cross sections as function of frequency is made. (rrh)
