The FiST-project New Technologies for Fire Suppression On Board Naval Craft, is a trilateral (Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden) research project under the CAN/NLD/SWE Cooperative Science and Technology MOU. The focus of the project is active firefighting on navy ships. One important task is the investigation and identification of methods to introduce redundancy in active firefighting on naval vessels. In this report, the results of a number of full scale fire tests run at the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, in January - February 2013, are presented. The objectives of the tests were to evaluate the residual capacity of a damaged high pressure water mist system and investigate how redundancies might be introduced or effect fire suppression systems. In addition to these tests, the effectiveness of a high pressure water mist system was also evaluated as an alternative to the deluge system requirements (NSC (24 mm/min) or Class DNV (32 mm/min)) for weapon storage fire protection.
