The purpose of the project is to provide safe and efficient travel between the communities of Wasilla and Palmer for the circulation of tourist and recreational traffic and to function as a farm to market and commuter road for those residents between the two communities who may work as far away as Anchorage. The growth of recreational traffic in the Matanuska Valley, occuring in both winter and summer, is a prime reason why improvement of the existing facility is needed. Disruption of the natural environment is an unavoidable aspect of highway construction. The effect will be minimized by the use of slope rounding, gentle side slopes and seeding of all exposed earth.
