The report presents recently gained knowledge and introduces the debate around 4 main topics: Chapter I deals with statistical data and methods of identification. Chapter II contains a survey of road safety policies concerning infrastructure in terms of the general concept of the highway, but also in terms of maintenance, equipment and operation. Chapter III is concerned with local safety measures, based on improvement of the existing road system. The integration into global safety policies of strategies to improve infrastructure, with special attention given to criteria and means of evaluation and decision processes, are presented in Chapter IV.
