The Esrange sounding rocket launch site and satellite ground station in Sweden, above the Arctic Circle, is described. Space activities are carried out in international cooperation using ground based instrumentation, balloons, sounding rockets, and satellites. Due to the geographical location, scientific studies of the aurora and other high latitude phenomena are of particular interest. The land recovery possibility makes Esrange very suitable for microgravity and other space science experiments using sounding rockets. It is possible to make simultaneous measurements of scientific phenomena using ground based instrumentation, scientific balloons, sounding rockets, and satellites. Plans include launching of rockets to 1000 km and small satellites into polar orbits.
