The report presents methods of making meteorological inferences using multispectral infrared radiance observations from an aircraft. Methods are explained for obtaining: (1) the vertical temperature profile down to the earth's surface, (2) the total precipitable water beneath the aircraft, and (3) the height and amount of any clouds below the aircraft light level. Results from observations during a flight over the Pacific Ocean in which a cold front was encountered demonstrate that the measurements were useful for depicting a detailed representation of meteorological conditions.
