The project is located on the west side of the southbound lanes of Interstate 89 in the town of Sutton. It will include a rest area building containing sanitary facilities and emergency kitchen utilities; a paved parking area, and entrance and exit ramps. The purpose of this project is to increase traffic safety by providing a stop for driver rest and comfort. An unavoidable adverse effect will be the clearing of some three acres of existing growth. For both esthetic and economic reasons this clearing will be kept to the minimum required to accommodate the facility. A recurring adverse effect which cannot be avoided will be the introduction of a localized increase in air pollution levels due to vehicle exhaust.
