The spacecraft thermal control, applied to the Hipparcos mission, is analyzed. The principal elements, the functional requirements during the launch and on-station configurations, and the corresponding performances are examined. The objectives of the thermal control system are reviewed. The elements of the spacecraft accounting for the overall thermal design are presented. The spacecraft heating strategies, developed on the basis of flight performance predictions, are discussed.
