The report presents a concise picture of the nationwide effectiveness of the procedures used to screen passengers and their carry-on items prior to boarding scheduled and public charter flights, as well as visitors desiring access to air terminal passenger boarding areas. The report also provides data on the initiatives being implemented as a result of the review of domestic airport security by the Safety Review Task Force established by the former Secretary of Transportation Dole. A summary is included of the assessments conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Office of Civil Aviation Security to determine the effectiveness of the security measures at foreign airports served by U.S. air carriers, foreign airports from which foreign air carriers serve the United States, foreign airports which pose a high risk of introducing danger to international air travel, and such other foreign airports as the Secretary of Transportation may deem appropriate.
