Volume II describes the most likely systems for transporting manganese nodules from the mining ship to port and from the port to the process plant. The report also describes waste transport and disposal methods most likely to be used by the industry. The main objective of this study is to delineate the resource requirements (e.g. energy, manpower, land, water, equipment, etc.) needed for each most likely system. This report does not consider the characteristics of nodules or wastes which are of possible concern in evaluating potential environmental effects, except as these characteristics affect resource requirements.
