This rise is based on embracing economic globalization but is in turn increasingly dependent on foreign energy. This paper will examine China's maritime strategy as stated and demonstrated and assess its compatibility with the doctrine of a peaceful rise including potential intersections with other maritime powers of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
