A monitoring system to ensure safety during future manned flights of Ariane 5 is proposed. This system is required to be operational and capable of stopping the engine before a failure turns disastrous and to be compatible with high requirements. These requirements are addressed and include: high ratio between detected failures and all failures, high reliability, and maximal number of detectors. Results of tests of the detecting algorithm are presented. The detecting algorithm is also applied to the Vulcain engine and the Ariane 5 cryotechnic engine, and results of simulation flights are presented.
