An alignment study is now in progress to determine if a more desirable location for Interstate 19 can be developed in the vicinity of the confluence of Josephine Wash and the Santa Cruz River. Some small roadside businesses in this area may be affected by a loss of trade but Tumacacori attracts a great many tourists and should provide a sustaining volume of traffic. The construction of this highway will necessitate the removal of several dwellings and the relocation of their occupants. Some cultivated acreage and grazing land will be removed from agricultural productivity. Establishments doing business along the present highway will not be isolated but some traffic will be channeled away from contact with them.
