Some results of the VTOL basic research were utilized for investigating the airframe integration of high bypass engines. The well known panel method was used for the theoretical work, including engine jet effects. It was necessary, after the successful VFW 614 flight testing, to expand and consolidate the experience gained in the development of the VFW 614 in the field of airframe engine integration. Research included experimental (force and pressure measurements) and theoretical work. The effects of engine positioning on the aircraft aerodynamic coefficient are emphasized. The jet effects are of great importance for the aerodynamic efficiency of this type of configuration. The importance is confirmed of interference optimal engine positioning with its strong influence on the efficiency and quality of future civil aircraft development.
