This analysis documents MTMC participation in the REFORGER 78 exercise. It evaluates MTMC planning for and execution of its role in the sea deployment and redeployment of military equipment of major elements of the 5th Infantry Division (Mech), the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), elements of the 4th and 9th Infantry Divisions, and other miscellaneous supporting units to Europe and return, to home station. Analyzed are: predeployment rail outloading training, rail loading, line haul transportation activities planning and execution of seaport cargo staging and shiploading, cargo documentation, and problem areas. MTMC activities were characterized by thorough planning, responsive execution and timely on-the-scene adjustments. Again during REFORGER 78, as in previous REFORGER exercises, the surface transportation system demonstrated its ability to execute its responsibilities in support of large unit movements. (Author)
