This paper presents an overview of available aeroelastic methods and the current developments at NLR. The methods for routine flutter prediction are based on the classical linear approach using linear unsteady aerodynamic forces. At some conditions it is found necessary to model nonlinear effects, e.g. prediction of limit cycle oscillations, in which a method based on semi-empirical techniques is employed. To cope with continuously more challenging requirements in the prediction of aeroelastic characteristics, current developments at NLR concentrate on the computational aeroelastic simulation using CFD methods.
