The software engineering approach adopted by British Aerospace in the specification, design and implementation of the Avionics and Utility Systems Management software for the Experimental Aircraft Programme (EAP) is described. The software life cycle and supporting methods and tools are described, in particular the Controlled Requirements Expression (CORE) method, supported by the CORE Work Station, and the Perspective programming support environment. The considerable benefits obtained in both productivity and quality are highlighted and developments are indicated leading to a full Integrated Project Support Environment (IPSE). NATO Furnished.
