As mobility relates directly to life quality for the elderly, a serious need exists to find ways for many elderly people to maintain their ability to drive. The implications of physical of physical limitations, including eyesight, reaction time and cognitive processing are serious issues. This research was performed to detemine how emerging in-vehicle technologies might be used to help elderly drivers. A prototype system was developed to present navigation, collision avoidance, and signing information to elderly drivers via an integrated head-up display (HUD). A variety of driver performance measures were collected and analyzed to determine the effects of the information displays on the driving behavior of elderly drivers.
