It is concluded that, contrary to the much referred to work of Ditchburn and Lettvin, vision does exist, though impaired, during involuntary saccadic eye movements as well as during voluntary saccadic eye movements as shown by Volkmann. In practical applications, where the effects of eye movements are to be considered, the degree of vision present during the involuntary and the voluntary saccade must be allowed for rather than assuming a total blanking of vision as has previously been accepted.
