The Radio and Electrical Engineering Division of the National Research Council and Computing Devices of Canada Limited have jointly undertaken a study of telemetry systems suitable for use in gun launched upper atmosphere probes. This report describes some of the results of the study. The types of experiments currently being conducted in rockets and balloons are listed, and the problems encountered in performing them in a high-g environment considered. Some conclusions are reached concerning the type of telemetry system most suitable for gun launched probes, taking into account the state of the art in vehicle performance, components and sensors, and estimated telemetry requirements.
