The linear induction motor is to provide the propulsion of high-speed tracked vehicles; speed and brake control of the propulsion motor is essential for vehicle operation. The purpose of power conditioning is to provide the power matching interface between the available power and the desired power for driving the propulsion motor. The report presents a technical survey of power conditioners that are applicable for driving the linear induction motor in the variable frequency power mode. Power conditioning systems were selected for technical evaluation and the results are also presented. These systems include the motor-alternator, naturally commutated inverter, forced commutated inverter, and the synchronous inverter-condenser power conditioners.
