The visibility of targets on the ground for observers in an aircraft was studied. The maximum flight altitudes at which detection, recognition, or identification of ground targets is still possible were calculated under the assumption that the visibility distance is a logarithmic function of the altitude. The constants of this function were determined experimentally.
