This report describes the research and testing being performed at NHTSA to study the aggressivity of heavy trucks in collisions with passenger cars. A detailed analysis of NASS accident hardcopies was performed separately to study the distribution of impact geometries and speeds of accidents involving heavy trucks and passenger cars. The front impact mode between heavy truck and cars was found to be the predominant impact configuration in such collisions. It was therefore decided to study various impact modes involving truck and car fronts.
