An introduction is presented to the principal problems, requirements, and operating conditions of space radio telemetry systems. Problems of equipment reliability, weight, power sources, and interference-free communication with spacecraft in near and deep space are considered. In addition, the use of on-board systems for the storage of telemetric and video information, preliminary data processing and compression, and reliable transmission, are shown to constitute the highest priority of mandatory dependability.
