This report is a military publication written by two engineer colonels for the benefit of officers and soldiers of the rocket forces, cadets of military academies, and other interested students of rocket dispersion. Text is designed for complete comprehension by those with a secondary education. An explanation of the mathematics underlying dispersion is provided. The connection between rocket dispersion and warhead characteristics as a factor in probability of target destruction is shown, e.g. a warhead of large lethal radius can compensate for a certain amount of dispersion error. Mass firing of rockets is regarded as less favorable than more efficient elimination of dispersion factors. The last two chapters are devoted to the causes of rocket dispersion for both guided and ballistic types. Specifically excluded are air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles which are beyond the intended scope of this publication. (Author)
