The Division Command Lessons Learned Program which relies upon oral interviews of outgoing division commanders for its substance, provides a needed service within the Army. It not only gives specific insights into the unit to which the new division commander is going, but it also serves as a vehicle for examining the consistency of thought within our Army. Division commanders set the training focus and establish the ethical and leadership climates within their organizations. If our Army is to move smoothly forward in these areas, the ideas and thoughts of the division commanders ought to be consistent with those of the Army at large. This paper examines that correlation in several narrow sub-areas of the three listed above. It concludes with an assessment of the validity of the program as a bellweather for Army thought. (EDC)
