The results of combustion experiments with FLOX/polyethylene hybrid propellants in low thrust engines are used to predict higher thrust behavior. The work was carried out to investigate possible payload increase of the Europa 2 launch vehicle. Regression laws for hybrid propellant combustion are described, and the importance of a correct formula for developing and optimizing propellant geometry is pointed out. The transfer ability of results to higher thrust engines with different combustion chamber geometry is discussed. Materials for conduits, armatures, combustion chambers, and blast pipes, which are compatible with hybrid propellants, are surveyed. Missions for a high energy hybrid propellant module are summarized with regard to the Europa series launch vehicles. (Author)
