An overview of the roles and plans of the Satellite Technology and Research Center in the space activities in Korea are presented. The following items about the Korea Institute of Technology Satellite-A (KITSAT-A) launched simultaneously with the Topography Experiment for Ocean Circulation (TOPEX) by an ESA ARIANE launch vehicle are presented: (1) major missions such as space technology acquisition and experiencing of designing, structuring, and operating minisatellites; (2) specifications for orbit, power budget, frequency allocation, attitude control, machinery, onboard data systems, and module structure; and (3) experiments with KITSAT borne equipment on data transmission, Charge Coupled Device (CCD) earth imaging, digital signal processing, and cosmic radiation measuring. The KITSAT project time schedule is also presented.
