The report discusses methods of solving two problems of optimal control in flight vehicles: (1) the problem of programming the trajectory of the vehicle's CG when the vehicle has some assigned extremal quality; and (2) the problem of synthesizing an automatic unit permitting an optimal stabilization of the vehicle's motion along this flight path in accordance with an assigned criterion. Both problems are treated as falling within the scope of the calculus of variations. For solving the first problem, use is made of Pontryagin's principle of a maximum, while for solving the second one, the Bellman dynamic programming procedure is used. A special chapter is devoted to continuous differential games and to solving the simplest tracking problem. The discussion is illustrated with numerous examples. (Author)
