The work was undertaken to develop antilock brakes for motorcycles utilizing the advantages of fluidics technology. The vehicle and brake control components were modeled for computer analysis. Using a system approach to the design, a non-linear analysis in the gain-phase plane was performed to determine acceptable time response functions for the components. Emphasis was given to examining the transient characteristics of angular motion at the onset of wheel lock. Based on results of computer analyses and instrumented braking tests, angular acceleration was selected to initiate brake control. Design details and test results are given.
