The effect of ditching a gravel road with shallow ditches and low bearing capacity was studied on two experimental roads in the county of Ostergotland. The two sections have subgrades consisting of clay (road no 884), and fine-grained till (road no 1180), respectively. Falling weight deflectometer tests were made to measure the bearing capacity. The ditches at road no 884 were on average 10-15 cm deep before ditching and approximately 50-55 cm deep after. Frost heave and ground water level or water content were also measured. It is however uncertain if ditching affected these parameters.
