Presented are the preliminary system specifications, dimensions, trajectory, and performance for a two-stage, air-breathing, recoverable first stage orbital booster vehicle. The payload capability of this vehicle is 73,000 pounds with a mass ratio of 9.6 to orbit. The air-breathing power plants are fixed-geometry, oxidizer-augmented ramjets and hyperjets consuming SF-1 fuel and liquid oxygen. While this system analysis is preliminary and certainly not optimum, it is believed to be indicative of the potentials of the particular power plants and recovery system proposed. In addition, the power plant and structural concepts are based upon near-current state-of-the-arts, indicating the possibility of relatively short system development time.
