The primary objective of this study was to determine ways to improve the rideability of Utah roads by (1) increasing the effectiveness of present methods and (2) applying new methods using available surface quality measuring equipment. It is recommended that the Mays Ride Meter be used as a pavement roughness survey tool to evaluate deteriorated pavements programmed for rehabilitation or major maintenance. This would identify rough pavement areas that should be considered for lane-leveling or planing prior to an overlay or other activity.
