The statement addresses the potential environmental impact of the location of a new helicopter training mission at Hill Air Force Base. It states that the consolidation of all Air Force helicopter training at a single base was directed by Congress, and that of the seven Air Force installations surveyed, Hill Air Force Base was the most acceptable alternative. The new environmental impact on the area will result from the aircraft fire rescue and suppression portion of the training. Control of the smoke generated during this training will be included in the operating instructions now being developed by the Air Force for this mission and by addition, as soon as feasible, of smoke-suppression devices currently under investigation. The over-all impact of the mission is found not to significantly degrade the Wasatch Front environment, and there are, at this time, no unresolved environmental controversies. (Author)
