In the testing of space vehicles and their components in a space thermal environment simulator, it is desirable in many cases to utilize scaled models due to space limitations of the test facility. Space thermal environment tests of models and prototypes have been designed and performed to experimentally establish the validity of scaling criterion previously developed and checked analytically. The test results verify the established requisite conditions for thermal and geometric similitude between model and prototype. The results of these studies indicate that where necessary it is possible to obtain definitive thermal information from the simulated space environment testing of scaled models of satellites and space vehicles, provided that the test is designed on a firm basis of the established scaling laws.
