The report contains the results of noise measurements during the type-approval of 8 mopeds. Measurements were taken whilst the mopeds were stationary and in motion, using two methods--one described in the Dutch Road Traffic Regulations and the other contained in a Draft Directive of the Commission of the European Communities. During the type-approval and testing of the mopeds according to the EEC Directive, the requirement specified in the Dutch Road Traffic Regulations for type-approval and testing was relaxed by an average of 2.6 dB(A). The noise level of stationary mopeds measured according to the method described in the Road Traffic Regulations was on average 16.1 dB(A) higher than the level measured according to the method described in the EEC Directive. The report concludes by indicating the advantages and disadvantages of both methods.
