An introduction to satellite orbit and attitude theory, suitable for use with a geostationary (synchronous) satellite is made. The basic Keplerian orbit is derived, first order approximations to luni-solar and geopotential perturbations are developed, and methods of orbit computation described. Also discussed are longitudinal drift, the technique of orbit maneuvers, and attitude determination and control. Throughout the paper the principles are illustrated by reference to the Skynet satellites and a summary of computer programs in the Skynet 2 suite is given.
