This issue contains seventeen papers on statistical methods and highway safety performance. Specific topics addressed in this issue include the following: a crash prediction model for network screening; multistate safety evaluation of intersection conflict warning systems; crash prediction for rural two-lane roads; safety evaluation of diverging diamond interchanges; safety effects of widening shoulders on rural multilane roads; and crash modification functions for installation of left-turn lanes at signalized intersection approaches. Additional topics addressed in this issue include: conflict-based safety performance functions for predicting traffic collisions by type; microscopic safety evaluation and prediction for freeway-to-freeway interchange ramps; safety performance of climbing lane configurations on expressways; and transferability of safety performance functions for developing crash modification factors. In addition, the papers in this issue address: the use of continuous pavement friction measurements to develop safety performance functions, improve crash count prediction, and evaluate road treatments; calibration of Highway Safety Manual predictive methods; heterogeneous over-dispersion parameter negative binomial safety performance functions; analysis of rear-end events on congested freeways; aggregate injury severity modeling; reliability-based design procedure for fatigue cracking in asphalt pavements; and mixed distribution generalized linear models to quantify safety effects of rural roadway features.
