Recent statistics of freight transport demand in developed countries show its relative decline to economic growth. Within the paper, the author suggests that the decline in freight transport demand in metric weight does not necessarily mean the decline of transport in importance. The report discusses: changes in the industrial structure of the economy; more compact production of goods on the whole; changes in the methods of distribution and new features in freight transport demand.
