The purpose of this program was to extend the operating flight envelope of a subsonic liquid fueled ramjet engine from altitude of 20,000 feet to 30,000 feet. The subsonic ramjet engine is a very low cost propulsion system applicable to many tactical applications such as standoff weapons, drones, and targets. The investigation consisted of a direct-connect test program in the AFAPL Ramjet Test Facility. Tests were performed with the use of exhausters and airflow controls to simulate subsonic flight conditions representative of tactical missiles. The combustor investigated was a combination of a cone and V-gutter. Engine performance obtained is presented in the form of combustion efficiency and thrust. (Author)
