The study, conducted by Frederic R. Harris, Inc., was funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency on behalf of Indonesia's Ministry of Communications. The purpose of the report is to assess the feasibility of implementing an intermodal transportation system for domestic cargo in an effort to reduce highway congestion, pollution, and road maintenance. This service would provide door-to-door, intermodal transport of freight using advanced intermodal technology on the basis of a commercial venture between the Indonesian Government and private sector entity.
