An efficient high resolution optical system is described which employ grazing angle reflection suitable for soft X-ray observations. The system consists of a paraboloid mirror for receiving rays at a grazing angle, immediately followed by a hyperboloid mirror which receives reflections from the paraboloid at a grazing angle and directs them to a predetermined point of focus. A second hyperboloid mirror is centrally spaced between the other two surfaces and positioned to reflect, from its outer surface to the point of spaced between the other two surfaces and positioned to reflect, from its outer surface to the point of focus, the radiation which is reflected only by the initial hyperboloid. A shutter is included in the system to assist in calibration.
