Effective manpower planning is essential to the continued success of the USAF. Tactical Air Command (TAC) is currently involved in the acquisition of automated test facilities to be employed in the maintenance of F-111A avionics equipment. The Logistics Composite Model (LCOM) was used to simulate the effect of the new test stations on manpower in the following AFSCs: 326X3, 326X4, 326X5. A TAC supplied LCOM model of the existing repair facility was modified to reflect the new test equipment. Then both the old and the modified model were run under the same flying and maintenance scenarios. A comparison of the results showed that the new test equipment will achieve superior performance to the existing facility with a significant reduction in manpower. Actual percentage improvements, assumptions made, and suggestions for further research are presented. (Author)
