The training course 'Ship Navigation Channel Design' was presented at the US Army Engineer Waterways Station (WES) from 18-21 April 1983. The subject matter presented in the course included: design manuals, planning and economic topics, theoretical topics, sediment transport, several ongoing projects, ship pilots perspective, research projects, and Coast Guard subjects. Specific topics include: A theoretical explanation of ship dynamics in waves --both deepwater and shallow-water effects. Planning and design of deep-draft channels along the Texas coast; Problems and conditions that exist at the Columbia River Entrance; simulation techniques used at COARF(Computer Aided Operations Research Facility) in channel design. Sediment transport research and modeling; Harbor/port entrance design; Depth requirements at harbor entrances; Navigation and ship maneuvering in channels; and Underkeel clearance in ports.
