Equipment has been designed and constructed to produce pharmaceutical microspheres in the microgravitational environment found aboard an orbiting U.S. Space Shuttle. The microcapsules in space (MIS) equipment will replace two space shuttle middeck storage lockers. Design changes have been incorporated into the MIS equipment reflecting the results of NASA mandated safety tests. MIS is tentatively manifested aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery on Mission STS-53 pending final safety certification by NASA. STS-53 is scheduled for launch on October 15, 1992.
