Two different middle income communities lying close to Delhi city centre were chosen for extensive household surveys to improve the understanding of the problems of supply and demand for public transport services in the area. Data were obtained of socio-economic characteristics of households together with data on household and per capita daily trip rates. Comparisons were made using data collected on modal choice, distance travelled and time spent travelling. Attitudes of household heads towards public transport services supplied by the Delhi Transport Corporation were obtained. Public transport supply characteristics of conventional modes and unconventional paratransit modes were collected.
